Late JMM Leader Shibu Soren Honoured with Padma Bhushan Posthumously

Ranchi: Veteran tribal leader and Jharkhand movement icon Dishom Guru Shibu Soren has been posthumously conferred the Padma Bhushan, one of India's highest civilian honours, in recognition of his lifelong contribution to public service, social justice, and the rights of tribal communities. The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu to his wife and long-time companion in struggle, Rupi Soren.

The honour is widely seen as a tribute not only to Shibu Soren's personal legacy but also to the ideals of justice, equality and people's movements that he championed throughout his life. He devoted decades to the struggles for jal, jungle, zameen (water, forests and land), tribal identity, and the constitutional rights of the people of Jharkhand.

Apart from his political contributions, Soren was also known for his efforts to spread education, raise social awareness, combat social evils and unite marginalized communities. His commitment to social justice earned him widespread respect across political and social circles.

Leaders and supporters described the Padma Bhushan as a recognition of the values, struggles and aspirations that Shibu Soren represented. They said his place in the hearts of millions of people, particularly in Jharkhand, will always remain unmatched and that his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
