Ranchi: Amid the ongoing student movement at Jaipal Singh Stadium, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has urged the state government and administration to take immediate and positive steps to address the legitimate demands of the protesting students.
SFI said that the democratic student movement should not be politicised and that the government must engage in dialogue with the students instead of viewing their demands through the lens of political interests.
The organisation demanded an impartial inquiry into the alleged unnecessary use of force and lathi-charge during the movement. It also urged the administration to ensure the safety of protesting students and provide better and free medical treatment to those who were injured or admitted to hospital.
SFI further demanded a fair and high-level investigation into alleged irregularities and corruption related to JPSC and JSSC examinations. It said that strict legal action should be taken against anyone found guilty.
The organisation also opposed attempts to divide students on the basis of caste, religion, language or political identity. It stressed that students should be united for their rights to education and employment. SFI also called for effective measures against corruption, unnecessary fees and illegal collections in the education system, besides raising concerns over the increasing commercialisation and privatisation of education.
Earlier, an SFI delegation visited Sadar Hospital and met students injured during the movement to enquire about their health and condition.
Later, an SFI press conference was held. The press conference was addressed by SFI District Convenor Ojashwi Raj, Co-Convenor Fiza Ahmed, Soma, Sonali and Faizan. Former SFI member Aman also addressed the press conference.
SFI reiterated its support for the democratic rights of students and their legitimate demands, and appealed for strengthening the struggle for education, employment, transparency and justice while keeping student unity above political interests.
