Prolonged deadlock may affect BSL’s proposed expansion prospects
Bokaro, October 16: The ongoing deadlock at Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) may have implications for its proposed expansion plans, underscoring the importance of maintaining uninterrupted plant operations and a conducive industrial environment for future growth.
In an appeal to Bokaro residents and displaced persons, BSL management highlighted the plant’s crucial role in the region’s economy, noting that thousands of people, including contract workers, suppliers, transporters, traders and service providers, depend directly or indirectly on its smooth functioning.
Displaced persons have been on a hunger strike at the designated protest site in front of the administrative building since October 10. On Friday, all plant gates except the main gate were also blocked, disrupting the movement of essential raw materials and other supplies.
The management expressed concern over the health of those participating in the hunger strike and urged them to call off the protest. It also stated that the disruption of supplies could affect production at the thermally sensitive plant, potentially necessitating production cuts and the shutdown of critical equipment units.
Such shutdowns could be difficult, time-consuming and expensive to reverse, with potential financial consequences for the plant and the state.
Against this backdrop, the prevailing situation may complicate the environment required for BSL’s proposed expansion and long-term development. Sustained industrial operations are important for strengthening the plant’s future growth prospects and supporting economic activity across the Bokaro region.
The management has appealed to all stakeholders to resolve the issue through mutual dialogue and restore normalcy, emphasising the need to safeguard the plant’s operations and the region’s economic interests.
