Government to Act on 14-Point Demand of Thalassemia Patients — MLA Pradeep Yadav


Ranchi::The voices of children and families suffering from thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and aplastic anemia in Jharkhand have finally reached the government.


A special Diwali Meet and Discussion Session was organized by the Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association (A unit of “Lahu Bolega” Blood Donation Organization, Ranchi) at the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly Auditorium.
The event was graced by Mr. Pradeep Yadav, Leader of the Congress Legislative Party and MLA, as the Chief Guest.


Participants from across the state — including Ranchi, Lohardaga, Khunti, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Gumla, Latehar, Palamu, and the Santhal Pargana region — attended the program. Among them were patients, parents, blood donors, and representatives from various social organizations.


Demands Submitted for Policy and Medical Support


During the event, patients and their families presented a 14-point memorandum to MLA Pradeep Yadav, highlighting key issues such as the formulation of a state thalassemia policy, free medical treatment, blood bank facilities, bone marrow transplant support, and the establishment of genetic testing centers.Additionally, blood donation organizations from across Jharkhand submitted a 19-point memorandum outlining systemic challenges and recommendations.


The organizers honored MLA Pradeep Yadav with a memento, shawl, and bouquet, while representatives of Apollo Hospital (New Delhi) and Shonit Foundation were also felicitated.
The auditorium was creatively decorated with posters and newspaper clippings reflecting the struggles and demands of thalassemia patients.


Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Mr. Pradeep Yadav said:


“This event has given me the opportunity to understand the pain and emotions of thalassemia patients and their families.
Thalassemia is indeed one of the most serious health issues in Jharkhand.
The government will take this matter seriously and act upon your demands.
A delegation, led by me, will soon meet the Hon’ble Chief Minister to discuss these concerns.We will launch an awareness campaign across the state to fight thalassemia, sickle cell, and aplastic anemia.I assure you, we are with you in this cause.”


Relief for Thalassemia Families

During the event, 30 family members of thalassemia patients from the Ranchi–Gumla region were provided with one-time Indian Railways travel passes by the Civil Surgeon’s office to ease their treatment-related travel.On the occasion of Diwali, sweets and gifts were distributed to all families, and MLA Pradeep Yadav personally fed sweets to the children, creating an atmosphere of joy and warmth.


Expert Address by Dr. Gaurav Kharia

Renowned bone marrow transplant specialist and Head of the Hematology Department at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, Dr. Gaurav Kharia, addressed the audience virtually through video conferencing.He shared insights about the latest medical advancements and the role of bone marrow transplants in treating thalassemia.


Active Participation from Multiple Organizations


The event was chaired by Mr. Nadeem Khan, founder of the Thalassemia Association and Lahu Bolega.
The session was conducted by blood donor Harshvardhan of Mehr Khalsa, while Sonal Kumari and Sakshi Singh — both thalassemia-affected students — introduced the subject.
The memorandum was read out by Alex Toppo and Lucky Oraon.


Prominent attendees included RJD State General Secretary and Spokesperson Kailash Yadav, Apollo New Delhi’s Jharkhand Representative Ravi Kumar, Shonit Foundation members Shahbaz, Jitendra Pandey, Ashraf, Kolhan Blood Donation Organization In-Charge Sapan Mahato, Mehr Khalsa’s Harshvardhan, Jharkhand Andolankari Morcha founder Pushkar Mahato, writer M.Z. Khan, blood donors Engineer Shahnawaz Abbas and Asif Ahmed Guddu, RTI activist Akram Rashid, journalists Buland and Naseem Khan, along with hundreds of thalassemia patients and their families.
