Ranchi/New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday raised the issue of 19-year-old student Sahil, who was injured during the student-youth march in Delhi, at a press conference held at Jantar Mantar. He alleged that Sahil, who was peacefully participating in the march while carrying the Indian national flag, was struck by a pellet fired during the police action, causing severe damage to one of his eyes.
Rahul Gandhi stated that doctors at AIIMS, New Delhi, have informed that there is only a 1% chance of saving the vision in Sahil's injured eye. Calling the incident deeply disturbing, he said that the use of force against students peacefully exercising their democratic right to protest is unacceptable.
Sahil was present alongside Rahul Gandhi during the press conference and showed the media the injuries on his face and the damage to his eye. Gandhi said that the voices of students demanding transparency and accountability in competitive examinations cannot be
silenced through force. He called for a fair investigation into alleged irregularities and repeated incidents of question paper leaks, and demanded strict action against those found responsible. He also urged Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to take moral responsibility and resign.
The student-youth march was held in New Delhi on July 20 to demand transparency in competitive examinations and to protest alleged question paper leaks. According to the allegations made during the press conference, Sahil sustained serious eye injuries after being hit by a pellet during police action against the protesters.
Sahil, a student of the University of Delhi, also works part-time as a driver to support his family financially. He said he was among the candidates affected by the alleged leak of the 2025 SSC Delhi Constable Examination. According to Sahil, the decision to reappoint the same vendor associated with the examination has once again raised concerns among aspirants about possible paper leaks. He said he joined the student-youth march to protest against the move and to demand a transparent and accountable examination system.
