Ranchi: The CPI(M) organised Cuba Solidarity Day in Ranchi on Thursday, expressing solidarity with the people of Cuba and strongly condemning the economic sanctions imposed by the United States on the socialist country.
Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) State Secretary Prakash Viplav said that imperialist forces in the United States were apprehensive of Cuba’s socialist system and had been imposing severe economic sanctions on the country for decades. He said the Cuban Revolution of 1959, led by Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, established a socialist government right in the US’s backyard and posed a strong challenge to imperialism. The revolution, he added, also inspired revolutionary movements across Latin America.
CITU District Secretary Pratik Mishra said that despite repeated attempts by the US to undermine Cuba, the country had continued to uphold its socialist system.
CITU State General Secretary Bishwajit Deb said that the US sanctions had severely affected Cuba’s supply of essential commodities, including food grains and fuel. He said the country was also facing a serious power crisis, causing hardships for the Cuban people.
CPI(M) State Secretariat member Samir Das alleged that the US wanted to bring about a counter-revolution in Cuba and install a government of its choice. However, he said, the Communist Party of Cuba and its people continued to defend socialism despite facing severe difficulties.
Aman Kumar, Faraz Abbas and Sonali also addressed the gathering. Prafulla Linda proposed the vote of thanks.
The speakers said Cuba Solidarity Day was being observed across the country to express support for the Cuban people.
It may be mentioned that August 13, 2026, also marks the beginning of the birth centenary year of legendary Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.
