State Secretary Prakash Viplav says campaign will focus on displacement, unemployment, labour rights and protection of democratic rights
Ranchi: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will launch a statewide mass campaign across Jharkhand from June 30 (Hul Diwas) against what it termed the "corporate–communal nexus" and anti-people policies, State Secretary Prakash Viplav announced after the conclusion of the party's two-day State Committee meeting.
Addressing the media, Viplav alleged that the rights of people over jal, jangal and zameen (water, forests and land), employment and democratic institutions are under sustained attack. He accused the Centre and the state government of pursuing policies that favour corporate interests while ignoring the concerns of farmers, workers, displaced families and other marginalised sections.
The two-day State Committee meeting, held at the party's state office in Ranchi, reviewed the prevailing political, social and economic situation in Jharkhand and adopted a series of resolutions on people's issues.
The campaign will raise issues including forced displacement, eviction of rural landholders through Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) projects, rising pollution in mining areas, repeal of the four labour codes, the proposed replacement of MGNREGA with VBGRAMG from July 1, growing unemployment and the protection of voting rights. As part of its anti-imperialist programmes, the party will also observe Cuba Solidarity Day on August 13.
As part of the campaign, CPI(M) will organise padyatras, village meetings and intensive public outreach programmes across the state. Preparatory meetings of all district committees and general body meetings will be held between June 25 and July 10.
The party will conduct a public fund-raising campaign from September 1 to 3. A joint meeting of various organisations representing displaced people will be held in Ranchi on July 8. The statewide campaign will culminate in massive demonstrations at all district headquarters between September 8 and 15.
The State Committee meeting was chaired by Surjit Sinha.
