Ranchi/Thiruvananthapuram: Two women leaders of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) were injured during a march to Kerala University following a confrontation between police and protesters, the organisation alleged on Monday.
According to the SFI Central Executive Committee, SFI Central Executive Committee member Arya Prasad and Kerala state secretariat member Vaishnavi Shaji sustained serious injuries to their heads and faces and were hospitalised.
The SFI alleged that police personnel resorted to lathi-charge during the peaceful march and targeted women leaders. The organisation further claimed that the police did not follow prescribed protocols while dealing with the protesters.
The march was organised to protest what the SFI described as the alleged interference of the Sangh Parivar in universities and the education sector in Kerala. The organisation accused the UDF government of allowing the RSS greater space in educational institutions.
The SFI said the alleged growing influence of the BJP-RSS in the state’s education sector would not be accepted by Kerala’s secular society.
The SFI Central Executive Committee strongly condemned the police action and demanded a proper investigation into the incident and appropriate action against those found responsible.
