Ranchi: The All India Students Association (AISA), Jharkhand State Council, held its meeting on January 31 and February 1, 2026, in Ranchi. Former JNU Student Union president Comrade Dhananjay participated as a central observer. The meeting saw detailed discussions on pressing issues related to state, national, and higher education, and finalized the upcoming organizational and protest action plan.
Expressing deep concern over continuous delays in scholarship disbursement, the body demanded accountability from the Hemant government and the Modi-led central government. The council also decided to launch a statewide campaign to regularize academic sessions in all universities and to oppose the National Education Policy (NEP) and the ‘Viksit Bharat’ education initiative. Furthermore, an agitation will be conducted demanding strict implementation of UGC Equity Regulations, following the model of the Rohith Vemula Act.
On the scholarship issue, a statewide call for action has been announced, with a sit-in at the Welfare Office scheduled for March 10, 2026. As part of organizational expansion, the council has set a target of 50,000 memberships across the state. Units will be formed through college, university, and district-level conventions, with coordinators appointed for all 24 districts.
In addition, the council decided to launch a movement for the promotion of long-serving ad-hoc and need-based teachers and to organize a ‘Jashn-e-Ulghulan’ event on Bhagat Singh Jayanti.
