Ranchi: On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, today, 10 December 2025, representatives of Jharkhand Janaadhikar Mahasabha, People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Adivasi Women’s Network, AIPWA and several other social organizations held a strong protest at Albert Ekka Chowk against alleged human rights violations by the state and central governments.
The protesters alleged that in the name of combating Naxalism, violence is being carried out against tribal communities. Security camps are being set up without the consent of the Gram Sabhas, creating an atmosphere of fear among local people. They strongly opposed forced land acquisition, displacement and unregulated mining activities, calling them a blatant violation of tribal rights.
During the protest, organizational representatives raised concerns over the arrest and alleged harassment of Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and Sonam Wangchuk. They also criticised cases being allegedly filed under the UAPA, calling it an attack on democratic rights, and demanded the release of long-pending undertrial prisoners.
The protesters carried placards and raised slogans such as “Protect Human Rights,” “Stop Fake Cases,” and “Restore Democratic Rights.” Speakers warned that if human rights violations do not stop, people’s movements will be intensified in the coming days.
The protest was attended by Akanksha Bihan, Aloka Kujur, Cecilia Lakra, Ashish Roushan, Leena, Nadeem, Nandita, Riya Tulika Pingua, Rose Madhu Tirkey, Roushan Hora, Siraj Dutta, Shashi, Tom, Ziaullah, and many other members of various organizations.
