Ranchi: Former JNU Students’ Union president and SFI National Secretary Aishe Ghosh raised several questions concerning the education and employment sectors at a press conference held at Satya Bharti in Ranchi. She raised concerns over the poor condition of government schools, privatisation and commercialisation of education, the National Education Policy, paper leaks and transparency in examinations such as JPSC, JSSC and NET.
Questions Over the Condition of Government Schools
Aishe Ghosh said there was an urgent need to seriously review the condition of government schools across the country. She said providing adequate teachers, buildings, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, toilets and drinking water should be among the government’s primary responsibilities.
She questioned why government schools were not being provided with adequate resources when education is a fundamental right of children.
Why Is Education Being Commercialised?
Raising concerns over the growing privatisation and commercialisation of education, Ghosh said education should not be turned into a business driven by profit. She pointed out that rising education costs have the greatest impact on children from poor, working-class and lower-middle-class families.
She stressed the need to strengthen the public education system to ensure equal opportunities for every child.
Concerns Over the National Education Policy
Speaking about the National Education Policy, Ghosh said any education policy should be assessed on the basis of how effectively its benefits reach ordinary students. She expressed concern over the increasing centralisation and privatisation of education and called for wider consultations involving students and teachers.
Paper Leaks Have Eroded Students’ Trust
On the issue of paper leaks, Ghosh said students spend years preparing for competitive examinations. If question papers are leaked or irregularities occur in the examination process, it amounts to an injustice to students who have worked hard.She said ensuring transparency and accountability in the examination system was the government’s responsibility.
Concerns Among JPSC and JSSC Aspirants
Referring to JPSC and JSSC examinations in Jharkhand, Ghosh said the future of young people preparing for government jobs should not be compromised in any manner.
She called for transparency in recruitment examinations and said that whenever allegations of irregularities arise, they should be investigated impartially and candidates should be given clear information about the outcome.
Questions Over NET and Other National-Level Examinations
Referring to NET and other national-level examinations, Ghosh said it was essential to maintain students’ confidence in the examination system. In case of irregularities, responsibility should be fixed and action should be taken against those found guilty instead of putting students through further hardship.
Call to Listen to Students’ Voices
On student movements, Ghosh said the government should listen to the concerns of students and young people on education and employment rather than attempting to suppress their voices.
She said issues related to education, employment and a transparent examination system were not merely student concerns but matters directly linked to the future of the country. She called upon students and youth to strengthen their voices for their rights through democratic means.
