Attack on Judiciary: CPI(M) Demands Strict Action

Ranchi: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has strongly condemned the incident in which a shoe was thrown at India’s Chief Justice B.R. Gavai. The party described it as an attack on the dignity of the judiciary and a serious indication of growing intolerance toward the country’s democratic system and constitutional institutions.

The party called the act extremely objectionable and shocking, highlighting that a lawyer threw a shoe at the Chief Justice in an open courtroom while raising slogans in the name of “Sanatan Dharma.” CPI(M) demanded immediate and strict action against the lawyer involved, who is a registered member of the Supreme Court Bar Association and has been taken in to custody,to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

The Polit Bureau noted that in recent days, statements made by chief ministers, central ministers, and leaders of BJP-ruled states, which are casteist, communal, and divisive, have encouraged such anti-social elements. According to CPI(M), these ideas that spread hatred and division in society are part of a conspiracy to pressure and destabilize the judiciary and other democratic institutions.

The party emphasized that safeguarding the independence and dignity of the judiciary, along with the fundamental values of the Constitution, is the responsibility of every citizen and political party. CPI(M) appealed to democratic citizens across the country to unite and raise their voice against such attacks and the propagation of hate-filled ideas.
