CPI(M) Jharkhand State Committee Concludes Two-Day Meeting; Raises Concerns Over Exam Irregularities, Corruption and Proposed Nuclear Plant
Ranchi: The two-day meeting of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) Jharkhand State Committee concluded on Sunday, with senior party leaders strongly criticizing the Central Government over alleged irregularities in national examinations, police action against protesting students, corruption allegations and the proposed nuclear power project in Jharkhand.
Addressing the concluding session, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Tapan Sen alleged that the police action against students and youth protesting in Delhi had exposed what he described as the "neo-fascist character" of the BJP-led government.
He said repeated controversies surrounding the NEET question paper leak, alleged irregularities in CBSE answer-sheet evaluation and technical glitches during the CUET examination had severely undermined the credibility of the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Sen claimed that more than 25 Central-level examination papers had leaked over the past 12 years and alleged that the NTA had failed to discharge its responsibilities effectively. Referring to the ongoing student protests demanding the abolition of the NTA and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, he accused the Centre of responding with repression instead of addressing the concerns of students.
Speaking at the meeting, CPI(M) Jharkhand State Secretary Prakash Viplav alleged that the BJP government's promises of eliminating corruption had proved hollow. Citing media reports, he called for an impartial investigation into allegations of misuse of donations related to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya as well as allegations of misuse of public funds involving a Union Minister of State for Agriculture. He said those found guilty should face strict legal action irrespective of their position.
The State Committee also discussed the proposed nuclear power plant in Jharkhand. The party announced that it would constitute a team of experts to study the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Jharkhand Government and the Jindal Group for the project. It further decided to send a delegation to meet the Chief Minister to seek clarity on legal provisions concerning liability and safety in the event of a nuclear accident.
The meeting also reviewed the prevailing political situation, organizational matters and several issues concerning education, governance and public interest.
