Ranchi: The workers of Ranchi Municipal Corporation will observe a one-day strike on September 25 to demand the implementation of their legal rights—such as holidays, bonus, regularization, identity cards, and salary slips. The Union has already informed the Municipal Administrator in advance regarding the strike.
The Union alleges that under the Shops and Establishments Act, provisions like casual leave, annual leave, and maternity leave have not been implemented. Similarly, bonus payments under the Bonus Act of 1965 have also not been enforced yet.
Instead of taking action, the Labour Department is appeasing the Municipal Administrator. The Union said it is the legal responsibility of the Labour Department to take punitive action against those who fail to implement these provisions.
The Union has issued a clear warning that if the orders to implement bonus and leaves are not issued by September 24, they will stage a protest at the Labour Commissioner’s office at 3 PM on the same day. This protest will continue until the workers’ rights are enforced.
Addressing the gathering, Union President Bhavan Singh stated that the continued neglect of workers' legal rights will not be tolerated. General Secretary Prakash Toppo alleged that Zonal Officers are extorting money from workers every month. He demanded that such officers be suspended and a formal investigation be launched. He warned that if this extortion continues, the Union will take strict action.
The Union has appealed to all workers to participate in large numbers in the September 24 protest and strengthen the ongoing struggle for their rights.
