RANCHI: A meeting of social and political activists, blood donation organisers, voluntary donors, and representatives of families of patients with blood disorders was held at Comrade Mahendra Singh Bhawan on Saturday to review the blood donation and supply system in Jharkhand.
The meeting discussed the reported shortage of blood in government blood banks, which participants said had continued for nearly seven months. Concerns were also raised over the lack of public awareness, encouragement and recognition for voluntary blood donation, non-compliance with earlier government orders, discontinuation of donor cards and the delay in making the report on the Chaibasa incident public.
Participants also discussed the announcement made in the Jharkhand Assembly on December 9, 2025, concerning blood and patients suffering from blood disorders, and raised questions over its implementation.
The meeting further discussed the Health Department’s MoU with a private company, M.S. Science, for ensuring blood availability within four hours. Participants demanded that the MoU be made public along with details of the company’s previous experience and work in the field.
A state-level meeting of blood donation camp organisers, voluntary donors, organisations, patients and their families, and social activists will be held on September 24 to discuss the issues and decide the future course of action.
The meeting was chaired by Nandita Bhattacharya, while CPI(ML) Jharkhand state secretary Comrade Manoj Bhakta attended as the chief guest. Among those present were Shital Odhhar, Nadeem Khan, Vijay Kumar, Sudama Khalkho, Shanti Sen, Bhim Sahu and several others.
