CPI(ML) Urges Hemant Soren Government to Withdraw False Cases and Open Dialogue with Protesters

Ranchi::(September 1, 2025 ) The Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) has strongly condemned the Jharkhand government's continued crackdown on peaceful protesters and has demanded immediate withdrawal of non-bailable charges filed against them in Medininagar and Nagdi.

On August 29, demonstrators in Medininagar gathered peacefully to protest custodial deaths and alleged police brutality. However, instead of addressing their concerns, the administration slapped serious legal charges on several protesters. CPI(ML) has described this as a "repressive" and "undemocratic" move aimed at silencing dissent.
In a statement issued on Sunday, CPI(ML) State Secretary Manoj Bhakt criticized the state government for failing to act against police officials accused of misconduct, while simultaneously targeting activists and advocates who have been raising legitimate public concerns.
“The Hemant Soren government must stop using the police and legal machinery to suppress democratic movements. It should talk to the protesters rather than intimidating them with false cases,” Bhakt said.
The party pointed out that despite a CPI(ML) delegation meeting with the Deputy Inspector General of Police in Palamu and receiving assurances of swift action, no concrete steps have been taken against the officers involved in the alleged incidents of police violence.
The statement also highlighted the misuse of the SC/ST Act against Dalit activists in earlier incidents, and noted that lawyers involved in public interest litigation were physically attacked while in police custody — a matter that raises serious questions about law enforcement accountability in the state.
CPI(ML) further criticized the government’s approach to the land acquisition process in Nagdi, particularly for the RIMS 2 medical institute project. The party has demanded that the state engage in dialogue with local residents instead of using coercive tactics.
“If the Gram Sabha or the majority of local villagers are opposed to land acquisition, the government should seek alternative land for the project. Forced acquisition will only lead to more resistance and unrest,” Bhakt added.
The party has called on Chief Minister Hemant Soren to personally intervene and ensure that democratic rights are protected, the false cases are withdrawn, and the administration returns to the path of dialogue and accountability.
