Humanity on Mother’s Day: Doctors and Youth Donate Blood for Thalassemia Patients



Ranchi: On the occasion of Mother’s Day, a blood donation mega camp along with a programme to honour mothers and blood donors was organized jointly by “Lahoo Bolega” Blood Donation Organization, Ranchi and Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association. Blood donors who regularly donate for thalassemia and sickle cell affected children, along with courageous mothers, were honoured during the event.

The programme was presided over by Nadeem Khan. Shruti Devi, in-charge of the Chief Minister Dal-Bhat Yojana Centre at Sadar Hospital, Ranchi, delivered the welcome address, while Seema Devi, mother of a thalassemia patient, proposed the vote of thanks.

A special blood donation camp was organized at the Blood Bank of Ranchi Sadar Hospital for thalassemia patients. Under the leadership of blood donor Dr Danish Rehmani, eight junior doctors and engineers donated blood. Three additional willing donors, however, could not donate due to low haemoglobin levels and medication-related issues.

Among the blood donors were Dr Danish Rehmani (Lake View Hospital, Ranchi), Dr Abhishek Kumar (Maa Rampyari Ortho Centre, Ranchi), Dr Ehsan Ahmad (Vitalia Hospital, Ranchi), Prabhat Kumar, Shoaib Akhtar, Danish Akhtar and Engineer Shahnawaz Abbas.


During the programme, nine “Warrior Mothers” including mothers of thalassemia and sickle cell patients, single mothers, working women and women battling domestic violence were honoured with mementoes and ceremonial shawls. Those honoured included Reena Kachhap, Devki Devi, Seema Devi, Shamma Praveen, Nigar Sultana, Bimla Kachhap, Farihayaa Bilkis, Lalita Devi and Ruby Praveen.

Thirteen blood donors who regularly donate blood for children suffering from thalassemia, sickle cell disease and other blood disorders were also honoured with medals and shawls by the warrior mothers.

The programme was attended by Vivekanand Verma, founder of Muskurahatein sanstha Ramgarh, Shabbir Ansari, secretary of Bokaro Blood Donor Association, Deepak Mahta, coordinator of SAWAG New Delhi, Suraj Jhandai, president of Gurunanak Sevak Jatha, along with Sameer Mishra, Chanchal Kumar Singh and several social workers and blood donors.

Several dignitaries including Nadeem Khan, Shruti Devi, Sonam Kumari, Pragati Prakash, Qabil Hussain, journalist Firoz Jilani, Zeba, Ramzan Raza Qureshi and Ali Ansari were also present on the occasion.
