Focus on capacity expansion, safety, raw material security and value-added products
Dr Ashok Kumar Panda on Friday assumed charge as Chairman & Managing Director of (SAIL). Prior to this, he was serving as Director (Finance) of the company and also held the additional charge of Director (Commercial) for nearly nine months.
Dr Panda joined SAIL in 1992 as a Management Trainee (Technical) after completing his B.E. in Electrical Engineering. Over the last three decades, he has held key responsibilities across various plants and units of the company, gaining extensive experience in operational, financial and commercial functions.
During his tenure as Director (Finance), he led several strategic initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency, production enhancement and overall profitability. He also played an important role in strengthening sales performance, improving net sales realisation, reducing inventory levels and enhancing product branding while serving as Director (Commercial).
After assuming charge, Dr Panda said SAIL is moving ahead with its next phase of expansion to 35 million tonnes per annum. He stated that the company will continue to prioritise workplace safety, strengthen raw material security through domestic mining and overseas asset exploration, and expand its market reach with greater focus on value-added products and sustainable value creation for stakeholders.
