Ranchi: Students of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) on Tuesday staged a protest and gheraoed the administrative building, pressing for the implementation of the “One Person–One Post” policy along with several academic and administrative demands. The agitation was jointly led by the Adivasi Students’ Union (ACS) and the All India Students’ Association (AISA), disrupting academic activities on campus.
Following the protest, a meeting was held between the Vice-Chancellor, deans, and student representatives. The Vice-Chancellor assured that necessary action on the key demands would be initiated within a week, in line with earlier directives from the Raj Bhavan.
Student leaders, however, warned of intensified agitation if the assurances are not fulfilled within the stipulated time. AISA Ranchi Secretary Sanjana Mehta criticized the Vice-Chancellor’s reported remarks suggesting additional responsibilities for more qualified teachers, calling it a violation of the principle of equal opportunity.
Several student leaders and hundreds of participants from both organisations took part in the demonstration.
