Ranchi: Jharkhand’s Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Deepika Pandey Singh, on Tuesday asserted that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a powerful tool to enhance efficiency but cannot replace human beings. She urged officials not to fear AI, but to understand and adopt it to make governance more effective.
Addressing the inaugural session of a two-day training workshop organised by the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) at the SIRD Auditorium in Hehal, Ranchi, the minister said that technology should be viewed as an enabler rather than a threat. The workshop aims to strengthen employees’ capacity and equip them with knowledge of emerging technologies, including AI.
JSLPS has set a target to train around 450 participants through six such training programmes. More than 60 participants are attending the ongoing session.
Highlighting the importance of adapting to technological change, Singh said the Rural Development Department has taken a commendable step by integrating modern tools into its functioning. She encouraged officials to actively learn and apply AI in their respective fields to improve efficiency and service delivery.
At the same time, she cautioned against the misuse of technology, especially while handling government data, stressing the need for vigilance and responsible usage.
The minister also informed that similar training programmes will soon be conducted at district and block levels to widen the outreach.
Experts from leading institutions and technology firms across the country are participating in the training sessions, offering insights into AI platforms and tools. Key areas of focus include data analysis, forecasting, survey and data collection, communication systems, and AI-based applications.
The initiative is being carried out with the support of the AI Support Cell of the Rural Development Department, with the objective of making the JSLPS workforce more efficient, agile and technology-ready.
JSLPS CEO Ananya Mittal, along with officials Vishnu Parida, Rakesh Kumar, Amin Rahman, Niyati Merchant, Vinod Pandey and S. Das, were present on the occasion.
