Cases of Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Patients and Divyangjans Will Be Resolved Quickly: Civil Surgeon


Ranchi: A discussion programme on the problems and solutions related to Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Anaemia, Aplastic Anaemia, Divyangjans (persons with disabilities) and blood donors was organised on Friday at the auditorium hall of Sadar Hospital, Ranchi. The event was held under the joint initiative of Lahu Bolega Blood Donation Organisation, Ranchi and Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association, with support from Sadar Hospital.


The chief guest of the programme was Ranchi Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar, while the event was inaugurated by Deputy Superintendent of Sadar Hospital Dr. Bimlesh Singh. The


programme was chaired by blood warrior and founder of the association Nadeem Khan. The proceedings were conducted by Sujata Kumari and special educator blood warrior Powel Kumar.


Patients and their family members from Ranchi as well as Khunti, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Hazaribagh and Saraikela-Kharsawan participated in the discussion.


During the programme, patients raised several important demands, including assured blood availability without donors or recommendations, establishment of a separate blood counter for Thalassemia and Sickle Cell patients, increase in the number of specialist doctors, trained staff in the Day Care unit, and free medicines and diagnostic facilities.


They also demanded the implementation of a “Single Window System” to ensure that all government benefits, certificates, cards and healthcare services could be provided at one place.


Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar assured that the issues raised by patients would be addressed on priority and necessary action would be taken at the departmental level.


A large number of patients’ relatives, blood donors and social workers were present at the programme.
