Chief Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Grant ST Status to Adivasis Working in Assam’s Tea Gardens



Ranchi:: A delegation from the Adivasi Samanvay Samiti Bharat (Assam) met Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren today at the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly. The delegation apprised the Chief Minister of the various problems faced by the Adivasi community living in Assam, along with their current socio-economic conditions.



The delegation informed that due to the apathy and negligence of the Assam Government, Adivasi families working in tea gardens continue to live in deplorable conditions. They highlighted that during the colonial era, many Adivasi families from Jharkhand were taken to Assam to work in tea plantations, and even today they are forced to live as second-class citizens while struggling for their rights, identity, and dignity.

listened to their issues with seriousness and assured them that the Jharkhand Government will take positive and concrete steps to safeguard the rights and identity of the Adivasi community residing in Assam. He emphasized that preserving the culture, traditions, and identity of the Adivasi society remains a top priority of his government.



He reiterated the government’s commitment to securing Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Adivasi communities working in Assam’s tea gardens. The Chief Minister also assured that the government will work towards increasing the daily wages of tea garden workers and resolving land-related issues faced by the community.




He further announced that a delegation from the Jharkhand Government will soon visit Assam to assess the ground realities and prepare an effective action plan for their welfare.




The delegation urged the Chief Minister to take a leadership role in raising their concerns so that their voices can reach both the Central and State Governments effectively.




Present on the occasion were Minister of Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and Backward Class Welfare Department Shri Chandra Linda; members of Adivasi Samanvay Samiti Bharat (Assam) Shri Jiten Kerketa, Shri Birsa Munda, Shri Tarun Munda, Shri Ganesh, Shri Ajit Purti, Shri Rajesh Bhuri, Shri Babulal Munda, Shri Mangal Hembram, along with others.
