Jharkhand Set for a Weather Change: Monsoon Withdrawal and a Hint of Winter Ahead




Ranchi :: Jharkhand is now set to witness a change in weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the withdrawal of the monsoon from the state is likely to begin within the next two to three days. Abhishek Anand, Director of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, informed that based on current weather conditions, the monsoon is expected to start retreating from Jharkhand between October 12 and 14.

During this period, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in some parts of the state. Cloudy skies are expected over Giridih, Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, and Simdega districts. The weather department has advised residents to remain alert due to the possibility of lightning strikes.


Double the Normal Rainfall in October


So far this October, Jharkhand has recorded 99% more rainfall than normal. According to the IMD, the state has received 66.1 mm of rainfall so far this month, while the normal average for October is 33.3 mm — nearly double the usual amount.


Throughout the entire monsoon season (June to September), the state recorded a total of 1,184.8 mm of rainfall, which is very close to the normal 1,188.4 mm. This indicates that the monsoon in Jharkhand this year has been largely normal.



Simdega Records Highest Rainfall; Deoghar and Dumka Least



District-wise data shows that Simdega received the highest rainfall, recording 58% above normal, while Deoghar and Dumka reported the least.In the past 24 hours, Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 29.9°C and a minimum of

24°C slightly below normal, making the
weather pleasant. At present, the state’s maximum temperature hovers around 30°C, while the highest temperature of 34.8°C was recorded in Pakur.


Early Signs of Winter


A slight chill can already be felt during the morning and evening hours, with increased humidity in the air. According to weather experts, as the monsoon withdraws, daytime temperatures may rise slightly, but nights will gradually turn cooler. In the coming weeks, dry weather is expected to prevail, marking the onset of winter across the state.
