Free HLA Screening Camp for Thalassemia Patients Organized in Ranchi under “Lahu Bolega” Campaign

Ranchi: As part of the “Eradicate Thalassemia, Sickle Cell, and Aplastic Anemia” campaign in Jharkhand, a state-level free HLA screening and bone marrow transplant counseling camp was organized on Sunday. The event was jointly conducted by the ‘Lahu Bolega’ blood donation organization and the ‘Shonit Foundation’. Thalassemia-affected children and their families from across the state actively participated in the program. All guests were welcomed with traditional Jharkhand attire and floral bouquets.

The expert team from Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, conducted free HLA screening tests for 100 patients and their families, including 39 children affected by thalassemia. Officials stated that the screening reports will be available within three months. Patients whose donor match is 100% will receive bone marrow transplants and blood transfusions free of cost, with support from government, CCL, NGOs, and philanthropic organizations.

Chief Guest, Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Mahua Maji, said that she stands with the affected families and will raise their concerns with Chief Minister Hemant Soren and in Parliament.

Distinguished guest Dr. Anuradha Vats also assured immediate action in critical cases.

Dr. Gaurav Kharia, Director of Apollo Hospital and Head of the Bone Marrow Transplant Department, described the state-level camp as a “historic and commendable effort.” He urged the government to formulate a permanent policy for thalassemia, sickle cell, and aplastic anemia to ensure timely and appropriate medical support for patients.

The program was also attended by clinical psychologist Deeptikha, engineer Rajiv Raju, David, Abhishek Chaudhary, and Arshad from the Shonit Foundation, Nadeem Khan and Mohammad Babbar from ‘Lahu Bolega,’ as well as members of the Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association. The event played a significant role in raising awareness about serious blood disorders and providing relief to patients in the state.
