Ranchi(Khunti)::District Deputy Commissioner Mrs. R. Ronita conducted a surprise inspection of Aspirational Block Karra on Saturday, reviewing the ground-level implementation of education, nutrition, healthcare, and public distribution system (PDS) schemes. During her visit, she inspected schools, Anganwadi centres, and PDS shops, and later held a review meeting with departmental officials to it's assess the progress of development initiatives.
The inspection began at Government Middle-cum-Upgraded High School, Haruhappa (Karra), where the Deputy Commissioner reviewed cleanliness on the campus, availability of drinking water, student and teacher attendance, and the quality of classroom teaching. She paid special attention to the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, assessing the quality of food, adherence to the prescribed menu, and timely distribution. She also inspected the kitchen and food storage areas and gave necessary instructions for improvements.
Interacting with the students, she inquired about their studies and encouraged them to focus on education, emphasizing that learning is the foundation of development. Teachers were instructed to adopt quality and creative teaching methods to strengthen students’ academic foundation.
Next, the Deputy Commissioner visited Anganwadi Centres in Loungel and Timra. She checked the quality of the nutritional food provided and instructed officials to ensure regular distribution as per the prescribed menu. She also reviewed the arrangements for early childhood education, vaccination, and the effective and timely organization of Village Health Sanitation & Nutrition Day (VHSND). Emphasis was placed on providing timely nutrition and healthcare to pregnant and lactating women.
During a surprise visit to a PDS shop in Karra block, the Deputy Commissioner interacted directly with beneficiaries to assess the transparency in food distribution. She directed that all ration items including wheat, rice, pulses, and salt be distributed fully and fairly to all entitled beneficiaries. She also instructed that e-KYC updates of all beneficiaries should be prioritized to ensure that government benefits reach the rightful recipients promptly.
Following the inspection, a review meeting was held at the Karra Block-cum-Circle Office auditorium, where the Deputy Commissioner assessed the progress of works under the Aspirational Block Programme. Discussions were held on key indicators defined by NITI Aayog such as education, health, nutrition, agriculture, livelihood, and basic infrastructure.
The health department was directed to ensure 100% ANC registration (for pregnant women), immunization, regular check-ups for hypertension and diabetes, and timely distribution of Take-Home Ration (THR). Monitoring of healthcare services was also emphasized.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the education department’s performance, the Deputy Commissioner sternly warned the Block Education Officer and other concerned officials to improve the quality of education on a priority basis. The progress of agricultural and infrastructure-related projects was also reviewed. The Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of connecting farmers with modern technology and effective implementation of all schemes for holistic development of the block.
Present at the meeting were Block Development Officer Mrs. Smita Nageshia, Medical Officer-in-Charge (MOIC), Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Block Education Extension Officer (BEO), Block Agriculture Officer (BAO), representatives from JEEViKA (livelihood mission), Junior Engineers (JE), BCs, fellows, and other relevant officials.
In conclusion, the Deputy Commissioner stated that achieving the set targets of the Aspirational Block Programme in a timely and effective manner is the responsibility of all departments, so that Karra Block can be brought into the mainstream of development and better facilities
