Bokaro, Aug 31: Renowned Olympian and Arjuna Awardee (1986) Capt. (Hony) Bhagirath Samai, V.S.M. (Retd.), visited DPS Bokaro on Sunday for a special yoga program.
In an exclusive conversation with Shwet Patra, the international gold medalist rifle shooter stressed that yoga improves both physical fitness and concentration. “Rifle shooting builds focus and discipline, which today’s students must adopt,” he said.
Samai encouraged families to practice yoga together daily, noting it strengthens bonds. He also advised students to reduce mobile use and spend more time on sports and physical activities.
Highlighting his career, Samai said he represented India 12 times between 1977 and 1997, visiting 12 countries and winning 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals internationally.
He added that Bokaro, as an industrial and educational hub, can promote rifle shooting through CSR initiatives and school programs, creating opportunities for future champions.
Gopal Thakur, General Secretary of the Bokaro District Olympiad Association, was present and supported Samai’s views, assuring continued efforts to promote yoga and Olympic sports in the district.
