Hemant Soren Calls for Stronger Organisation; JMM Reviews SIR and Census

Ranchi: A key meeting of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) was held on Tuesday at the Chief Minister’s residence in Ranchi under the chairmanship of party president and Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Senior leaders and office-bearers participated in the meeting, where detailed discussions were held on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and the upcoming Census.

On the first day of the two-day meeting, selected office-bearers and workers from 12 districts—Sahebganj, Dumka, Godda, Pakur, Deoghar, Jamtara, West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Lohardaga, Gumla, Khunti and Simdega—took part. The meeting was conducted by Central General Secretary and spokesperson Vinod Kumar Pandey. Those present on the dais included Rajmahal MP Vijay Hansda, Maheshpur MLA Prof. Stephen Marandi, Littipara MLA Hemlal Murmu and Central Secretary and spokesperson Pankaj Mishra.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. Soren said that in the current political scenario, the responsibility of the organisation has increased significantly. He stressed the need to strengthen the party structure from the booth level to panchayat, ward, block and district levels, so that the party can play an effective role at every level. He also emphasised making municipal and metropolitan committees more active and effective.

He urged party workers to remain continuously engaged with the public and to ensure that government schemes reach the last person. He added that in a changing political landscape, it is not enough to run the government; strengthening the organisation is equally important.

The meeting also discussed various aspects of the proposed Census. Leaders observed that the Census is not just about data collection but is also closely linked to social and political representation. Emphasis was laid on ensuring accurate enumeration of tribals, indigenous communities, backward classes and other deprived sections in Jharkhand so that their rights are protected.

Deliberations were also held on SIR, with party leaders alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may try to gain political advantage from the process. The JMM resolved that no citizen would be deprived of democratic rights in the name of SIR and that any such alleged attempts would be strongly opposed.

It was also decided that in the coming days, special organisational campaigns will be launched to train party workers, enabling them to raise awareness among people about voter lists, the Census and other sensitive issues. The party indicated that it will adopt a more active and assertive role on both organisational and public issues in the coming period.

The second day of the meeting will be held on Thursday with selected office-bearers from the remaining districts.
