Dr Ashok Kumar Panda Recommended As Next SAIL Chairman After PESB Selection
New Delhi, March 28: In a key development for India’s public sector steel giant, the Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Dr Ashok Kumar Panda for the post of Chairman and Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).
The selection was finalized during the PESB meeting held on Saturday morning, where a total of ten senior candidates from across SAIL, Railways, and other public sector undertakings were interviewed for the top post.
Dr Panda, currently serving as Director (Finance) at SAIL and also holding additional charge of Director (Commercial), emerged as the preferred candidate after a competitive selection process involving top executives including directors, executive directors, and senior government officials.
The PESB panel assessed candidates on leadership capability, operational experience, financial acumen, and strategic vision required to steer SAIL through evolving market dynamics and expansion challenges.
The recommendation now moves to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for final approval. Upon clearance, Dr Panda will take charge at a critical juncture as SAIL focuses on capacity enhancement, cost optimization, and strengthening its position in the domestic and global steel markets.
Dr Panda’s elevation is seen as a continuation of internal leadership within SAIL, with emphasis on financial discipline and commercial strategy amid fluctuating steel demand and global pricing pressures.
