CPI(M) Announces Major Campaign, Two Central Jathas to Be Taken Out in Jharkhand

Ranchi: The two-day meeting of the Jharkhand State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) concluded today. Addressing the meeting, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Tapan Sen said that the entire world is currently passing through a serious crisis.

He alleged that the United States, the leader of imperialist forces, under President Donald Trump, is determined to impose wars on the world. Referring to an incident involving Venezuela, he said that the act of forcibly taking Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife from their home at night and transporting them to New York was a direct and open attack on the sovereignty of an independent nation.

Tapan Sen further stated that India imposing an 18 percent tariff on exported goods, while allowing tariff-free imports from the United States, was unprecedented. He warned that the proposed US–India trade agreement would completely ruin Indian farmers and weaken the country’s sovereignty.

He also criticized the Modi government for introducing four labour codes that, according to him, take away the legitimate rights of workers. He condemned the announcement of handing over farmers’ land to corporates and the move to end MGNREGA. He described the nationwide strike held on February 12 against these policies and the trade agreement as historic.

Calling for mass participation in the “Delhi Chalo” rally on March 24, Sen said it was necessary to save the country from slavery, protect the Constitution, safeguard farmers’ land, restore rural employment through MGNREGA, and defend trade union and labour rights, along with ensuring education and jobs for the youth. He added that a large number of farmers and workers from Jharkhand would take part in the rally.

During the meeting, State Secretary Prakash Viplav presented an action plan to contact 10 lakh people across the state in preparation for the Delhi rally. As part of the campaign, two central propaganda jathas will be taken out.

The first jatha will begin from the Martyr Bir Budhu Bhagat Memorial in Silagai, covering Gumla, Khunti, and the Panchpargana region of Ranchi. The second will start from the Sido-Kanhu Memorial in Santhal Pargana and will campaign across six districts of the region.

In addition, local-level jathas will be organised in various districts, and party branches will conduct padyatras to mobilise support.

The meeting was chaired by Sameer Das.
