Ranchi: On the call of CPI (ML), a strong protest demonstration was organized at Albert Ekka Chowk in the state capital Ranchi under the banner of “Constitutional Pledge for the Protection of Voting Rights Day.” The protest was held to defend voting rights and democratic values, during which serious questions were raised about the role of the Election Commission.
Addressing the gathering, Shubhendu Sen said that the process of depriving crores of voters of their voting rights through SIR (Special Intensive Revision) goes against the fundamental principles of democracy. He stated that while Voters’ Rights Day is being observed on one hand, on the other hand, conspiracies are being carried out to remove voters’ names from the electoral rolls. This, he said, is a direct attack on the constitutional right to equal voting.
Anant Prasad Gupta said that there is a need for a broad-based mass movement against the tampering with the Constitution and attempts to weaken democratic institutions. He emphasized that the strength of democracy depends on the protection of voting rights and called for intensifying the struggle on the streets. He also demanded that the Election Commission immediately withdraw this entire process.
The protesters expressed deep concern over the alleged interference with the Constitution and demanded that it be stopped immediately. Raising slogans such as “Intensify the Struggle to Protect Democracy and Voting Rights,” the demonstrators raised their voices in defense of democratic rights and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguard them.
The protest was attended by Shubhendu Sen, Tony, Tom, Martin, Yakub Oraon, Shiv Prasad, Jayant Pandey, Praveer Peter, Priya Sheila, Sudama Khalkho, Jhariya Munda, Santosh Munda, Shalin, Satyaprakash, Saloni, Ajit Lakra, Sushma Gadi, Shanti Sen, Eti Tirkey, Nandita Bhattacharya, Vijay Kumar, Rajeev, Rameshwar Munda, Nikhil Raj, Triloki Nath, Shashi Sagar, Mohan Dutta, Anant Prasad Gupta, Naseem Khan, and several other activists.
