Congress to Fight for OBC Rights Following the Ideals of Karpoori Thakur

Ranchi: A meeting of the State Working Committee of the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (OBC Department) was held today at the Congress Bhavan in Ranchi under the chairmanship of OBC Department President Abhilash Sahu, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Jananayak Late Karpoori Thakur.

All India Congress Committee National Coordinator and Jharkhand In-charge Mr. Yogendra Yogi attended the meeting as the Chief Guest, while former Union Minister of India Mr. Subodh Kant Sahay was present as the Special Guest.

The meeting was conducted by State Spokesperson Parvez Alam, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Working President Surjeet Nag Wala.

Tribute to Karpoori Thakur

The meeting began with floral tributes to Bharat Ratna Jananayak Late Karpoori Thakur. Speakers remembered his lifelong struggle for social justice, honesty, and the upliftment of backward classes.

Call to Strengthen the Fight for OBC Rights

Addressing the State Working Committee, Chief Guest Mr. Yogendra Yogi said that Karpoori Thakur dedicated his entire life to fighting for the rights of backward classes. He became the voice of the oppressed and, as the first Chief Minister from a backward class in Bihar, ensured reservation rights for backward communities.

He stated that after the formation of Jharkhand, the first BJP government reduced OBC

reservation from 27 percent to 14 percent, which continues even today. This is an injustice to backward classes. Although the coalition government passed a proposal in the Assembly to restore 27 percent reservation and forwarded it to the Central Government, the Centre has shown indifference toward granting rightful reservation to OBCs in Jharkhand.

He emphasized that the struggle must be intensified from the streets to the legislature, and for this, the OBC organization must be strengthened from villages to booth level.

Karpoori Thakur’s Integrity Still a Benchmark

Special Guest Mr. Subodh Kant Sahay said it was his privilege to have worked with Karpoori Thakur, whom he regarded as a father figure. He said Thakur’s honesty remains a benchmark in Indian politics even today. He urged OBC Congress workers to strengthen the organization by adopting Karpoori Thakur’s principles and ideology.

Agitation to Continue Until 27 Percent Reservation Is Achieved

State Congress OBC Department President Abhilash Sahu said that Karpoori Thakur united backward communities and made them aware of their rights. He asserted that the movement to increase OBC reservation in Jharkhand from 14 percent to 27 percent is ongoing and will continue until backward classes receive their rightful share.

He added that the OBC Congress organization is being strengthened at district, block, panchayat, and booth levels.
