Ranchi: The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has expressed grave concern over the prevailing political, social, and economic situation in the country, describing the policies of the BJP-led central government as being against the Constitution, democracy, and the interests of the common people. The Polit Bureau strongly condemned attacks on minorities, anti-worker and anti-farmer decisions, violence against women and Dalits, environmental destruction, and imperialist interventions at the international level, and called for a nationwide united struggle on all these issues.
The Polit Bureau stated that Bajrang Dal and other Hindutva organizations have carried out heinous attacks on the Christian community in various parts of the country and have deliberately disrupted Christmas celebrations. The silence and inaction of the government were described as a calculated strategy, forming part of the RSS–BJP agenda to weaken the secular fabric of the country and impose a Hindu Rashtra. The party demanded the immediate arrest and strict punishment of those responsible and urged the government to uphold the constitutional values it has sworn to protect.
On MGNREGA, the Polit Bureau said that the BJP government has dismantled this demand- and rights-based employment guarantee scheme and replaced it with a weak alternative, pushing crores of rural workers into deeper insecurity. The new law shifts the financial burden from the Centre to the states while denying states any meaningful role in implementation. CPI(M) termed this a pro-poor rollback and reaffirmed full support for the ongoing struggles against this change.
Strongly criticizing the notification of the four labour codes, the Polit Bureau said these so-called reforms constitute a direct attack on workers’ rights and have been designed to benefit big corporate interests. CPI(M) justified the nationwide resistance by trade unions and reiterated its commitment to actively participate in and strengthen the workers’ movement.
Expressing concern over ethnic violence in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, the Polit Bureau held the “double-engine” government responsible for weakening social harmony. It stated that aggressive land eviction policies and deliberate encouragement of ethnic divisions have aggravated tensions, leading to violence and loss of life.
Regarding the Unnao rape case, the Polit Bureau termed the grant of bail to convicted former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar as a blot on the justice system. It noted that the survivor and witnesses had faced continuous intimidation and that the accused is also charged in the custodial death of the survivor’s father. Granting bail under such circumstances, the party said, severely undermines faith in justice, particularly for women, Dalits, and Adivasis, who are facing rising violence under BJP rule.
On environmental concerns, the Polit Bureau expressed deep alarm over changes made to the definition of the Aravalli hill range. It warned that these changes would encourage mining and real estate activities, placing this ecologically fragile region at grave risk. The government’s explanations were termed inadequate, and restoration of the original definition was demanded to ensure real protection of the Aravallis.
Addressing international developments, the
Polit Bureau condemned attacks on religious minorities in Bangladesh and urged the interim government to rein in fundamentalist forces and protect minority rights. It also strongly denounced US aggression against Venezuela, calling it an imperialist intervention and appealing to progressive, democratic, and patriotic forces worldwide to unite against such actions.
Concluding its statement, the Polit Bureau extended New Year greetings to the people of the country and emphasized that only through organized and united mass struggles can the anti-people policies of the BJP government be defeated and India’s secular and democratic character safeguarded.
