Ranchi:: On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, members of the Central Sarna Committee, led by its President Mr. Bablu Munda, paid floral tributes at the Birsa Munda Memorial located near Kokar Distillery Bridge. A large number of committee members and local residents gathered to remember the legendary tribal leader and his unparalleled contribution to society.
The programme began with the Chief Pahan, Mr. Jaglal Pahan, offering floral tributes at the statue of Birsa Munda. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Birsa Munda was born on 15 November 1875 in Ulihatu. He raised his voice against British rule and oppressive landlords and united the tribal community through the historic ‘Ulgulan’ movement.”
Central Sarna Committee President, Mr. Bablu Munda, stated that “Birsa Munda’s leadership brought a new awakening, unity and consciousness among the tribal society. His birth anniversary is celebrated across the country as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’. His iconic slogan ‘Abua Disum, Abua Raj’ remains a symbol of Jharkhand’s identity and self-respect.”
Principal General Secretary, Mr. Ashok Munda, remembered Birsa Munda’s life and said, “Though he lived only from 1875 to 1900, his role remains a significant chapter in India’s freedom history. He was a revered tribal leader and continues to be worshipped as a divine figure among tribal communities.”
The event was attended by Chief Pahan Jaglal Pahan, President Bablu Munda, Principal General Secretary Ashok Munda, General Secretary Mahadev Toppo, Jharkhand movement activist Kumod Kumar Verma, Surendra Linda, Mukesh Munda, Ashish Munda, Vishal Munda, Dhahru Oraon, Santosh Munda, Amar Toppo, Sanjay Nayak, Anjan Munda, Mahadev Munda and many others.
