Celebrating the Real Spirit of Real India

After 25 Years, the Spirit of the Jharkhand Movement Revived Through ‘Jharkhandi Unity March’

Ranchi:: On the 25th Foundation Day of Jharkhand, the Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha on Friday organised the ‘Jharkhandi Unity March’ in Ranchi. The march began from the Birsa Munda Samadhi Sthal in Kokar and concluded at Albert Ekka Chowk. Hundreds of residents joined the procession to remember the long struggle of the Jharkhand statehood movement.

March Begins with Tribute to Birsa Munda

Before starting the march, participants paid floral tribute to the statue of Birsa Munda, recalling his courage, sacrifice and leadership. The march highlighted the contributions of several historic revolutionaries — Birsa Munda, Sidho-Kanhu, Phulo-Jhano, Poto Ho, Telanga Khadia, Neelambar–Pitambar, and noted leaders of the separate state movement such as Jaipal Singh Munda, Hanna Bodra, N.E. Horo, A.K. Roy, Shibu Soren, Binod Bihari Mahato, Nirmal Mahato, Mahendra Singh, B.P. Keshari and Ram Dayal Munda.

Participants carried large posters and placards featuring these leaders. Songs written by Ram Dayal Munda celebrating unity and struggle were played throughout the march.

Roads Echo with Calls for Jharkhandi Identity and Unity

The city streets echoed with slogans such as:

“How did we win Jharkhand? We fought and won Jharkhand.”

“Unity in diversity — Jharkhandi unity.”

“Our identity — Jharkhandi unity and dignity.”

“Freedom, friendship, nature and equality — the essence of Jharkhandi identity.”

“Water–Forest–Land — our life, our identity.”

Speakers Call for Reviving the Spirit of the Jharkhand Movement

Addressing gatherings at the beginning and end of the march, speakers reminded people that the creation of Jharkhand was the result of a long and difficult struggle. They said:

“The aspiration behind the formation of Jharkhand was not merely administrative separation but a dream of freedom, equality and harmony with nature for the Adivasi-Moolvasi communities. Even after 25 years, this dream remains largely unfulfilled.”

The speakers also criticised the political class:

“The powerful have allowed large corporations to eye and exploit Jharkhand’s land, minerals and natural resources. The unique civilisation of Chotanagpur and Santhal Pargana is under threat.”

“The political leadership has neglected public education, forcing lakhs of youths to migrate as labourers.”

“Violations of CNT–SPT Acts and the Forest Rights Act have continued unchecked, and even after 25 years, the state has failed to notify rules under PESA.”

They added that efforts to divide the people of Jharkhand have weakened the unity that once strengthened the movement.

Leaflet Distributed: “25 Years of Jharkhand — Who Gained, Who Lost?”

During the march, a leaflet titled “25 Years of Jharkhand — Who Benefited, Who Suffered?” was distributed among the public. The pamphlet raises tough questions before the state’s political leadership regarding deprivation, poverty, displacement and the exploitation of natural resources.
