Ranchi :: The proposal by the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) to conduct board examinations for Class 5 students will not only violate the Right to Education Act but will also increase the dropout rate among children in a backward state like Jharkhand. Imposing a board exam at such a young age will create mental pressure on the students.
This proposal is a clear violation of Section 16 of the Right to Education Act, 2009, which prohibits failing any student up to Class 8. CPI(M) State Secretary Prakash Viplav stated that the Jharkhand government’s move would make education entirely exam-oriented and increase difficulties for underprivileged students in rural areas.
CPI(M) clarified that the party is not opposed to evaluating students, but introducing board examinations from Class 5 is not logical. The examination committee had earlier experimented with a board exam for Class 7, but the results were unsatisfactory, and the decision was later withdrawn.
