The investigation revealed that a sex racket was being operated from the hostel. Young women staying there were pushed into prostitution and sent to pubs, bars, and hotels whenever there was a demand. Customers were first sent photos of the women, and once they selected, the deal was finalized, and the women were dispatched.
During the raid, police found eight women without valid identification documents inside the hostel. It is suspected that they had been brought from Bengal and other states and forced into this trade. All of them were taken to the police station for questioning.
The raid was led by City DSP Venkatesh Raman and Kotwali DSP Prakash Soy, along with Lalpur police station in-charge Rupesh Kumar and several other officers.
The Lalpur area has earlier been identified as a hotspot for such rackets. Police believe that young women who come from outside Ranchi for studies or jobs are lured into this trade with promises of money and employment. The police are now trying to trace the entire network and nab the masterminds behind it.
