Ranchi: A massive public outcry erupted in Jharkhand against increasing police repression, fake encounters, and the plundering of natural resources like water, forest, and land.As part of a statewide movement on Monday, the Communist
Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) [CPI (ML)] laid siege to the Ranchi District Headquarters to protest the growing police atrocities, custodial deaths, and fake encounters in the state.
This demonstration, organized by the Ranchi district committee of CPI (ML), was led by Comrade R.N. Singh and conducted by Comrade Sarfaraz Ansari. The protest witnessed a large turnout of workers, farmers, women, and youth.
Addressing the gathering, AIPWA leader Aeti Tirkey, AISA district secretary Sanjana Mehta, state committee members Mohan Dutt and Nandita Bhattacharya, city secretary Jagannath Oraon, Sudama Khalkho of the Adivasi Sangharsh Morcha, AICCTU leader Naseem Khan, and others strongly criticized the state government for its unfulfilled promises and anti-people policies.
The speakers said that the Hemant government has failed to act on the issues it had promised to address when it came to power. The PESA Act has still not been implemented, anti-people projects like the Raysa Dam have not been stopped, and no concrete employment guarantees have been provided under the local policy.
They also stated that the exploitation of natural resources—water, forest, and land—is continuing unabated. The government is ignoring the rights of tribal and indigenous communities in order to benefit corporate houses.
Protesters further pointed out that the repressive attitude of the police has created an atmosphere of fear among the general public. Custodial deaths and fake encounters are proof that police rule is prevailing in the state instead of democracy.
Despite heavy rain, people remained firm and continued to raise their voices. CPI (ML) warned that if the government does not take the people's demands seriously, the movement will be intensified.
