Ranchi::The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly condemned the recent decision of the Trump administration in the United States to impose an exorbitant fee on H-1B visa holders. CPI(M) termed this move as retaliatory, unjust, and a direct attack on the livelihood of Indian professionals and their families. Under this proposed policy, H-1B visa applicants will be required to pay a fee of approximately ₹90 lakhs (US $100,000), which will adversely impact the careers of thousands of skilled Indian engineers, scientists, technical experts, and healthcare workers.
The Polit Bureau stated that this decision comes at a time when the U.S. has also withdrawn the waiver granted to India for the Chabahar Port project in Iran and has reinstated sanctions on Indian-operated projects there. The party alleged that these steps are part of a broader imperialist strategy by the U.S. to pressure India into accepting unfair trade terms and tariff-related demands.CPI(M) criticized the Indian government’s response, calling it weak and evasive. The party said Prime Minister Modi is merely distracting the public with hollow slogans like “self-reliance” instead of taking a firm stand. The Foreign Ministry’s timid and inadequate reaction has also been termed disgraceful, especially in the context of protecting the nation’s sovereignty and dignity.
The key demands of CPI(M) are as follows:
1-The Indian government must strongly oppose the U.S.’s unjust and coercive actions.
2--Diplomatic and legal steps must be taken to ensure the livelihood and rights of H-1B visa holders and their families are protected.
3--The government must clearly declare that it will not bow to any external pressure and will not compromise on the interests of Indian citizens.
The CPI(M) Polit Bureau emphasized that this is a decisive moment. The Indian government must take a firm stance against America’s aggressive and imperialist policies and take all necessary measures to safeguard national interests and protect its citizens.
