Ranchi: The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) [CPI(ML)] has demanded enhanced security for Nirsa MLA Arup Chatterjee in the wake of the recent threat controversy and political developments in Dhanbad. In a statement issued on Saturday, the party's Jharkhand State Secretary, Manoj Bhakt, alleged that attempts were being made to revive mafia influence in the coal belt and called for a fair investigation into the matter.
The party claimed that local residents have been protesting for a long time against alleged irregularities in the construction of the Nirsa Elevated Highway, environmental pollution, and the alleged neglect of local unemployed youth in employment opportunities. According to CPI(ML), MLA Arup Chatterjee and the Nirsa Citizens' Committee have consistently raised these concerns before the authorities.
CPI(ML) further alleged that political tension in the area has intensified following public protests and the MLA's intervention. The party claimed that attempts were being made to suppress the protests and create an atmosphere of fear. It urged the Jharkhand government to take strict action against those responsible and ensure adequate security for the legislator.
The party also demanded that the authorities review the quality of the highway construction, enforce pollution-control measures, and ensure employment opportunities for local youth. In addition, CPI(ML) sought an independent inquiry into allegations concerning BJP MP Dhullu Mahato, including cases registered against him, his alleged disproportionate assets, and his alleged links with criminal elements, under the supervision of a retired judge.
The party announced that it would launch a public awareness and youth awareness campaign against what it described as attempts to restore mafia rule in Dhanbad.
There was no immediate response from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or MP Dhullu Mahato to the allegations made by CPI(ML). Their version will be carried as and when it becomes available.
