Harmu Hospital Becomes ‘Lifeline’ for Thalassemia and Hemophilia Patients



Ranchi: In a humanitarian and historic initiative, Harmu Hospital Ranchi has started a free day-care center for children suffering from blood disorders, following an appeal by “Lahu Bolega” Blood Donation Organization and Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association. The center will provide free treatment and care facilities for patients suffering from thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, aplastic anemia, hemophilia and blood cancer. It is being described as the first such free day-care center started by a private hospital in Jharkhand.



The center was jointly inaugurated by Ranchi Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Harmu Hospital founder and retired RIMS professor Dr. Suhas Tetarwe, and JSCA President as well as former Deputy Mayor of Ranchi Ajaynath Shahdeo.



A large number of patients suffering from blood disorders and their family members attended the programme. During the event, Dr. Suhas Tetarwe, Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Dr. V.K. Verma and Dr. Pandey R.B. Prasad counselled patients and their guardians about blood-related diseases and their practical management.



Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest and other dignitaries said that Dr. Suhas Tetarwe has been known for his humanitarian and constructive work since his days at RIMS. They termed the free day-care center a remarkable and much-needed initiative for society. They also stated that apart from the Jharkhand government, this is the first time a private hospital in the state has launched such a free facility, setting an excellent example of sensitivity and humanity.




It was informed that the center will provide free treatment and monitoring for 10 patients every day. The facility will be managed by Harmu Hospital Ranchi, while practical support and coordination will be handled by “Lahu Bolega” Blood Donation Organization and Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association.

During the programme, “Upkar Samman” was conferred upon Dr. Suhas Tetarwe, while Dr. Prabhat Kumar and Ajaynath Shahdeo were honoured with “Sneh Samman” by the organizers. Mementos, traditional Jharkhandi shawls and bouquets were presented to them. A five-point resolution was also passed during the event.



The programme was chaired by Dr. Suhas Tetarwe, while Nadeem Khan conducted the proceedings. Sanjay Toppo introduced the subject and Devki Devi delivered the vote of thanks.




Among those present were Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Dr. Suhas Tetarwe, Ajaynath Shahdeo, Nadeem Khan, Dr. V.K. Verma, Dr. Pandey R.B. Prasad, family members of thalassemia and sickle cell patients, doctors and staff members of Harmu Hospital.
