BUILDING ENTREPRENEURS: THE IMPACT OF MEPSC INITIATIVES

In a world where the nature of work is evolving at an unprecedented pace, true empowerment stems not just from finding employment, but from creating it. Across India, thousands of aspiring individuals—from young graduates and women in self-help groups to street vendors and mid-career professionals—are discovering this power through the Management & Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council (MEPSC).

As a horizontal Sector Skill Council under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), MEPSC has spent over a decade transforming skill development into a launchpad for entrepreneurship, fostering self-reliance, innovation, and inclusive growth.

A Legacy of Excellence

Since its inception in 2015 as a Section 8 non-profit—a unique public-private partnership with the All-India Management Association (AIMA) as its sole promoter—MEPSC has focused on five pillars: Training & Assessment, Management, Professional Skills (including Security), Office Management, and, most crucially, Entrepreneurship.

The vision is clear: bridge the gap between education and real-world application by developing Qualification Packs (QPs) aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). Today, with over 10 lakh+ assessments completed, 700+ training partners, and 55+ specialized qualifications, MEPSC is not just skilling the workforce; it is building the entrepreneurs who drive India’s economy from the grassroots up.

FROM STREET VENDORS TO CERTIFIED NANO-ENTREPRENEURS

One of MEPSC’s most impactful contributions is its support for the informal economy. A prime example is the Nano Entrepreneur (Street Vendor) qualification (NSQF Level 3). This program equips individuals operating mobile stalls or headloads with essential business skills: inventory management, customer service, basic finance, hygiene standards, and digital literacy. What was once an uncertain daily hustle is transformed into a structured, scalable business.

MEPSC has extended this impact through targeted Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDPs):

Empowering Women in Assam: MEPSC conducted an EDP for over 510 women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across 17 locations. Participants gained practical expertise in marketing, packaging, and financial literacy, enabling them to launch micro-enterprises with newfound confidence.

Artisans and ODOP: In Uttar Pradesh, over 400 women artisans benefited from packaging and design programs aligned with 16 One District One Product (ODOP) clusters. These initiatives improved product branding and market access, while industry visits provided exposure to global supply chain standards.

"Stories like these echo across the country: a rural woman turning tailoring skills into a thriving home business, or a youth formalizing a vending operation to access government credit. By recognizing prior learning, MEPSC ensures that even those with limited formal education can earn certifications that open doors to growth."

IGNITING YOUNG MINDS AND INSTITUTIONAL CHANGE

MEPSC’s reach extends deep into academic institutions, nurturing the next generation of innovators. Through ideathons and strategic partnerships, it encourages students to view entrepreneurship as a primary career path.

A significant milestone is the February 2026 establishment of the Centre of Excellence in Entrepreneurial Skills and Policy (CEESP) at IIM Visakhapatnam. This centre focuses on research, mentorship, and policy discourse, creating an ecosystem where ideas translate into sustainable enterprises.

On the grassroots level, MEPSC’s flagship School Youth Ideathon (in partnership with ThinkStartup and CBSE) has become India’s largest entrepreneurship competition for students in Classes 4–12. By encouraging market-ready solutions for social and technical problems, MEPSC nurtures entrepreneurial thinking from an early age. This momentum is furthered by the College Youth Ideathon, which supports high-level innovation in tertiary education.

MEASURABLE IMPACT, ENDURING LEGACY

In its first decade, MEPSC has certified more than 10 lakh beneficiaries across 36 States and Union Territories. As the Council enters its second decade—following the celebration of its 10th Foundation Day on March 17, 2026—it carries a renewed momentum.

The human stories behind these statistics remain the true measure of success:

The Street Vendor who gains the acumen to double their daily earnings.

The SHG Member who breaks the cycle of financial dependency.

The Young Graduate who pivots from job-seeker to job-creator.

MEPSC’s approach emphasizes transversal skills—communication, problem-solving, and digital readiness—that prepare individuals for both today’s market and tomorrow’s uncertainties.

A CALL TO ASPIRE AND ACT

As India strives to become a global leader in innovation (Atmanirbhar Bharat), MEPSC plays a pivotal role. By making vocational education aspirational and industry-relevant, it aligns perfectly with the Skill India Mission.

Whether through short-term NSQF programs or advanced certifications in Business Analytics and Entrepreneurial Leadership, the opportunities are vast. MEPSC serves as a reminder that skills are the foundation of dignity and progress.

India doesn’t just need more jobs; it needs more job creators. Through its focused and inclusive initiatives, MEPSC is answering that call—one entrepreneur at a time.
