Over 600 delegates participate; new national committee constituted
Ranchi/Guwahati (Assam): The 4th Biennial National Conference of the All India Postal/RMS Pensioners Association was held on March 28 and 29 at Don Bosco Institute, Pan Bazaar, Guwahati. The conference witnessed participation of more than 600 delegates and visitors from across the country.
The inaugural session was addressed by Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, CITU National Secretary K.N. Umesh, Prof. Dr. Akhil Ranjan Dutta, along with representatives from the Confederation, NFPE, FNPO and BSNL, including Yadav, Khadse, Reddy and Muralidharan.
Delegates from several states, including Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha, participated in the conference.
A 28-member delegation from Jharkhand, representing Ranchi, Dhanbad, Daltonganj, Jamshedpur and Hazaribagh, attended the conference under the leadership of M.Z. Khan.
During the delegates’ session, representatives from various states expressed their views on strengthening the organisation and addressing pensioners’ concerns. General Secretary D.K. Debnath presented the Secretary’s report, which was discussed for nearly eight hours and subsequently adopted unanimously with amendments.
The income and expenditure statement for the past two years, presented by Treasurer C. Shekhar, was also approved unanimously. Several important resolutions related to pensioners’ welfare were passed, including a demand to restore pre-Covid railway travel concessions for senior citizens.
The conference also elected a 38-member National Committee unanimously. K. Raghavendran (Tamil Nadu) was elected President, D.K. Debnath (Assam) as General Secretary, and C. Shekhar (Tamil Nadu) as Treasurer. Other office-bearers and 15 executive members were also elected.
A cultural programme showcasing the rich heritage of Assam was organised on the evening of March 28.
The two-day conference was presided over by K. Raghavendran.
