Jales Ranchi Celebrates International Women’s Day with Enthusiasm



Ranchi: The Ranchi unit of the Janwadi Lekhak Sangh (Jales) celebrated International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm and dignity at Safdar Hashmi Hall in Ranchi. The programme focused on the theme “The Importance of Women’s Freedom,” highlighting issues related to women’s rights, dignity and empowerment. The event also featured a Kavi Sammelan-cum-Mushaira, adding a literary dimension to the celebration.



The programme began with a welcome address by Aparajita Mishra. Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of women’s education, self-reliance and their vital role in society.



The chief guest, Dr Karuna Jha, spoke about the various stages of women’s holistic development. She remarked that human society essentially consists of two genders—women and men—and that their equal participation is essential for the progress of women and society.



Presiding over the programme, Dr Kiran stressed the significance of women’s development and said that empowering women is crucial for building a progressive society. Dr Arun Kumar stated that women’s issues are global in nature and called for condemnation of incidents of violence against girls, including the mass killing of young girls reported in Iran.



Amal Azad spoke about the need to eradicate patriarchy from its roots, while Srinivas emphasized that an environment of equality must begin within the family itself.



Several other speakers, including Dr Vinod Kumar, Kumar Brijendra, Iqbal Khan, M.Z. Khan, Seema Prasad, Nishi Prabha, Yasmin Lal and Aparajita Mishra, also expressed their views on the importance of women’s freedom. They underlined that women’s empowerment is essential for the overall development of society and the nation.



The Kavi Sammelan and Mushaira began with Najma Nahid Ansari’s poem “Hai Adhar Kyon Larajta, Kyon Tumse Bigul Nahin Bajta.” Rehana concluded her recitation with the lines: “…so that I can proudly say that I need you.”



Nigar Sultana, through a poignant poem, criticized the dowry system, saying:
“Bahut lachar hoon Nigar, main kismat ki maari hoon,
Dahej de nahin sakti, isliye ab tak kunwari hoon.”



Amal Azad presented his poem “Sweekarokti” reflecting on gender equality. With the lines “Mat samajhiye ki main aurat hoon,” Dr Shaheen Saba highlighted the powerful presence of women across the world. Dr Iqbal Khan also recited couplets, including:


“Chahat ko aansuon mein bahaya nahin gaya,
Gehre the zakhm dil ke, dikhaya nahin gaya.”


Poetry was presented not only in Hindi and Urdu but also in tribal and regional languages of Jharkhand. Chhotni Kumari performed a song and poem in the Asuri language. Yasmin Lal, Kiran Kachhap, Moijuddin Mirdaha and Ramdev Baraik also enriched the event with their recitations.


At the end of the programme, participants collectively resolved to uphold women’s rights and promote gender equality. Among those present were Dr Mridula Shukla, Mohammad Aman, Asma Khatoon, Islam, Asad Khan, Izan Khan and Sunita Kerketta.


The programme was conducted by Dr Alam Ara, while Aparajita Mishra delivered the vote of thanks.
