43 Struggling Women Felicitated for Work in Blood Donation and Human Rights



Ranchi: On the occasion of International Women's Day and a Holi Milan gathering, Lahoo Bolega Blood Donation Organisation, Ranchi and the Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association organised a special programme at Bihar Club in Ranchi, where 43 struggling women from different walks of life were felicitated for their contribution and courage.



The programme was chaired by Ranchi Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar and clinical psychologist Dr. Anuradha Vats of Deepashikha. The event was organised by women blood donors, single women and families of patients suffering from thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia.



The programme was conducted by Farihaya Bilkis and Bimla Kachhap, while the welcome address was delivered by Reena Kachhap and Leela Devi. The theme introduction was presented by Devki Devi and Tarnnum Parveen. Taranami Sahu, a women’s rights activist and blood donor, spoke on the significance of Women’s Day. The three-point resolution was presented by Mannu Singh and Majidan Khatun, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Sangeeta Devi and Poonia Oraon.



The chief guest, Subodh Kant Sahay, said that the role of women in society is becoming increasingly significant. He praised the courage and dedication of mothers of children suffering from thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia, describing them as an inspiration for society. He also urged people to come forward and participate in blood donation campaigns, calling blood donation a noble humanitarian act.



Among the distinguished guests present on the occasion were senior physiotherapist Dr. Uma Sen Gupta of Deepashikha, Congress spokesperson Rajesh Sinha ‘Sunny’, and martial artist Shabbir Hussain.



Out of the 43 women felicitated, 21 were family members of thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia patients, three women blood donors, three women working for persons with disabilities, two women blood bank in-charges, one food rights activist, five women working for women’s rights, two working in the field of education rights, three government nurses/managers, and three women singers.



Prominent among those honoured included Devki Devi, Farihaya Bilkis, Bimla Kachhap, Reena Kachhap, Dr. Anuradha Vats, Dr. Uma Sen Gupta, Taranami Sahu, Kumudini Kerketta, Shikha Priya, Shruti Devi, Nigar Sultana, Aashi Das and Sushila Lakra, among others.



During the programme, a three-point resolution was also adopted demanding that the Jharkhand government promote blood donation through a structured campaign calendar, launch a state-wide blood donation drive on the lines of Kerala, and implement the announcement made in the Jharkhand Assembly on December 9, 2025, regarding thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia.



All the honoured women and guests were presented with mementos, traditional Jharkhandi shawls and bouquets.


Several people, including Nadeem Khan, Seema Devi, Sanjay Toppo, Suranjan Bada, Sanjay Mahto, Sonam Kumari, Sakshi Singh, Barkha Lily Bada, Engineer Shahnawaz Abbas, Faraz Abbas, Asfar Khan and Sania Khan, were present on the occasion.
