Two-Day SRU–SRCL Workshop Focuses on Demand Forecasting and Strengthening Coordination Across SAIL Steel Plants
Bokaro: Stressing the critical role of refractory materials in the steel-making process, Bokaro Steel Plant’s Director In-Charge Priya Ranjan called for the preparation of a robust and future-ready action plan to ensure efficient sourcing and optimal utilisation of refractory products across SAIL’s integrated steel plants.
He was addressing the inaugural session of a two-day workshop on effective sourcing of refractory products and services organised by SAIL Refractory Unit (SRU) and SAIL Refractory Company Limited (SRCL) at Bokaro Steel Plant on Monday.
Highlighting the strategic importance of refractories, Priya Ranjan said these materials form the backbone of the steel manufacturing process and directly influence plant efficiency and operational stability. He urged officials to fully utilise the capacities of SAIL’s refractory units and ensure better planning to meet the growing requirements of various steel plants.
Executive Director (SRU) P. K. Rath emphasised the importance of ensuring quality supply of refractory products, while Executive Director (SRCL) D. K. Mishra highlighted the need for stronger coordination between refractory units and steel plants to enhance operational efficiency.
During the first day of the workshop, officials from Bhilai, Rourkela, Durgapur, IISCO and Bokaro steel plants held detailed discussions on demand forecasting for refractory products and the future business outlook of SRU and SRCL.
The second day of the workshop will focus on order placement, alignment of plant requirements and development of new refractory products.
Senior officials from the refractory and iron and steel zones of SAIL are participating in the workshop, which is being viewed as an important initiative to improve productivity, quality and operational stability across SAIL’s steel plants.
