Support Candidates Committed to Harmony and Civic Amenities: CPI(ML)

Ranchi: CPI(ML) today held a press conference in connection with the upcoming municipal elections. Party State Secretary Comrade Manoj Bhakt, R.N. Singh, Anant Prasad Gupta and Nandita Bhattacharya were present at the
conference.

Addressing the media, party leaders appealed to voters to actively participate in the municipal elections. They said that the foundation of democracy lies in the right to vote, as policies from the ward level to the national level are determined by representatives elected by the people. They expressed concern over growing attacks on voting rights, calling it a serious threat to the democratic system.

The leaders stated that in the municipal elections, voters will elect ward councillors as well as chairpersons of municipal corporations, municipal councils and नगर panchayats. Citizens expect their wards and cities to remain socially and communally harmonious, free from crime, intoxication and corruption.

The party demanded that civic bodies ensure access to clean drinking water, electricity, housing and a pollution-free environment. They also stressed the need for adequate teachers in schools and proper medical facilities in hospitals. Decisions should be taken in favour of weaker sections of society.

Opposing privatization, CPI(ML) leaders said municipal bodies should not hand over their responsibilities to private companies, as privatization affects employment, reduces the quality of services and places an unnecessary financial burden on citizens.

They further stated that candidates involved in communal crimes or those supporting mob lynching, violence against women, protection of criminals, land mafias, promotion of substance abuse, or suppression of the poor cannot deliver governance in the public interest.

In conclusion, voters were urged to support honest candidates committed to communal harmony, women’s dignity, the rights of the poor and public service. The party appealed for backing those who are sensitive to civic rights and amenities and who strengthen grassroots democracy.
