Ranchi: Central government employees, pensioners and family pensioners have expressed strong resentment over the delay in announcing the revised Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) rates. Protesting against the delay, the All India Postal/RMS Pensioners Association organised a demonstration at Shaheed Chowk in Ranchi on Wednesday. The protest was led by the association’s State Secretary, M. Z. Khan.
The protesters said that for the past several years, the revised rates of DA and DR had generally been announced before Durga Puja, followed by the issuance of payment orders by the concerned central government authorities. However, this time, neither the revised rates have been announced nor have payment orders been issued, causing widespread dissatisfaction among employees and pensioners.
Employee organisations and pensioners’ associations across the country have been organising protests over the issue. The demonstrators in Ranchi also demanded an early announcement of the revised rates and the release of the pending payments.
Those who participated in the demonstration included K. D. Rai Vyathit, Executive President; Triveni Thakur, Vice-President; Triloki Nath Sahu; Syed Akhtar Shah; Jay Narayan Prasad; Jairam Prasad; Isak Minz; Hasina Grace Tigga; and Anil Naveen, among others.
Following the demonstration, the association sent an email to the Union Finance Minister in New Delhi, requesting the government to announce the revised DA and DR rates and issue the necessary payment orders.
The protesters also expressed their displeasure over the non-payment of 18 months’ DA and DR arrears relating to the period in 2021. They
stated that central employee organisations and pensioners’ associations have been continuously raising the demand for the release of these arrears.
The association urged the Central Government to address the concerns of employees and pensioners and take an early decision on the revised DA and DR rates and the pending dues.
