DC Ajay Nath Jha Cracks Down on Illegal Sand Mining in Damodar River Belt

Bokaro Steel City: In a decisive move against illegal sand mining and encroachment, Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha has ordered intensified enforcement in the Damodar river stretch at Bhatua. Acting on his directives, the District Mining Department and local police have been conducting sustained joint raids, leading to the seizure of large quantities of illegally extracted sand.

Official reports dated February 16 and earlier on January 10, 2026 confirmed unauthorized excavation and transportation on BSL-acquired land, prompting immediate administrative intervention. To strengthen oversight, a high-level committee headed by the Divisional Forest Officer, Bokaro, has been constituted. The panel has been tasked with conducting rigorous inspections and submitting progress reports every 15 days.

A review meeting held at the Collectorate was attended by Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh, Director (DPLR) Menka, Additional Collector Mohd. Mumtaz Ansari, District Mining Officer Ravi Kumar, Chief General Manager (Town Services), BSL, Kundan Kumar, General Manager A.K. Singh, District Public Relations Officer Ravi Kumar and other senior officials. The meeting focused on accelerating joint operations and ensuring continuous monitoring in vulnerable zones.

Reiterating a zero-tolerance stance, the district administration warned that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in illegal mining and encroachment activities.
