A historic platform showcasing the struggles, talents, and achievements of thalassemia patients
Ranchi: A grand state-level Jharkhand Thalassemia and Blood Warriors Convention was organized at Audrey House, Ranchi, under the joint initiative of Lahoo Bolega Blood Donation Organization, Ranchi and the Jharkhand Thalassemia Patients Association.
This unique convention, the first of its kind in the entire Hindi-speaking belt, provided a platform for stable patients of blood disorders such as thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and aplastic anemia, along with their families and specially-abled individuals.
The main objective of the event was to boost the confidence of patients, highlight their talents, spread awareness about blood donation, and express gratitude to the government for its efforts. The convention was conducted in four sessions, starting at 10 a.m. and continuing till late at night.
The chief guest of the program was former Jharkhand High Court Judge Justice Ratnakar Bhengra, accompanied by his wife. The special guest was Padma Shri awardee Madhu Mansuri Hansmukh. The program was presided over by Ranchi Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar, while the event was anchored by Nadeem Khan.
Painting Competition Showcased Pain and Hope
The first session featured a painting competition where 40 participants suffering from thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and physical disabilities expressed their emotions through art. Their paintings depicted themes of blood donation, society, environment, and government support.
The top six winners—Raushan Kachhap, Sakshi Singh, Harsh Rajkumar Yadav, Saurabh Mahto, Rishabh Kachhap, and Pragati Prakash—were honored with traditional Jharkhandi shawls, bouquets, and special gifts. All participants were also encouraged with appreciation gifts.
The competition was judged by renowned painting teacher Alka Ma’am from the Department of Art and Culture, Jharkhand Government. The session was coordinated by clinical psychologist Dr. Anuradha Vats and special educator Chhaya Ma’am.
Powerful Stage Play Touched Hearts
The second session featured a deeply emotional play titled “One Drop for Life.” The play was written, directed, and performed by thalassemia patients themselves.Sonal Kumari, Sakshi Singh, and 15 other stable patients portrayed their real-life struggles, pain, and triumphs on stage. The 20-minute performance moved the entire audience to tears.
All performers were felicitated with Jharkhandi shawls. Renowned drama instructor Ghosh Ji from Kala Mandir, Jharkhand Government, provided special training to the performers. The session was coordinated by Powell Kumar.
148 Personalities to Receive State-Level Honors
During the third session, the announcement of the 5th State-Level Blood Warrior and Humanitarian Service Awards–2026 was made, in which 148 distinguished individuals will be honored. These awards will be presented in the presence of Honorable Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
On this occasion, the “Public Health Physician Award / Excellence in Public Health Administration Award” was introduced, and Ranchi Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar was the first recipient of this honor. The session was coordinated by Nadeem Khan and Faraz Abbas.
Musical Evening Filled with Hope
The fourth session featured a soulful musical evening by 12 professional musicians from Ranchi. Motivational Bollywood songs based on struggle, hope, and victory mesmerized the audience.All musicians were welcomed with traditional Jharkhandi shawls and bouquets.
The session was anchored by journalist Buland Akhtar.
Large Public Participation
Several prominent personalities attended the program, including international award-winning filmmaker Biju Toppo, A.K. Jha of Shonit Foundation, senior JMM leader Antu Tirkey, Alka Ma’am, Ghosh Ji, editor Shahnawaz Hasan, Dr. S.T. Ahmad, engineer Naseem Ali, advocate Azhar Khan, and many others.
Hundreds of thalassemia patients and their families from different districts of Jharkhand participated in the convention. Proper arrangements for food, refreshments, and health-friendly facilities were made throughout the event.
This convention was not just a program—it became a symbol of hope, dignity, and renewed confidence for patients battling blood disorders.
