Ranchi:: Concrete steps are being taken to start kidney transplant services at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, the largest government hospital in Jharkhand. The state government has accelerated preparations in this direction so that kidney patients in Jharkhand can soon receive advanced treatment within the state itself. At the same time, plans are underway to introduce kidney transplant facilities in other government hospitals in a phased manner.
In this regard, the Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department, Government of Jharkhand, through a letter (Memo No. 1 (13)) issued by Deputy Secretary Mr. Dhruv Prasad, has informed the concerned departments. Accordingly, an important Advisory Committee meeting has been scheduled for January 9, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. The meeting will be held in the office chamber of Mr. Ajay Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department, and will be chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department.
During the meeting, consideration will be given to granting registration and licenses for kidney transplant services to two hospitals in Ranchi—Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and Raj Hospital, Ranchi.
As per the procedure prescribed by the Health Department, prior to granting permission for kidney transplant services, a technical committee is constituted under the chairmanship of the Director-in-Chief, Health Services. This committee conducts an on-site inspection of the concerned hospital and carries out a detailed assessment of the available infrastructure, specialist faculty, nephrology and urology services, operation theatres, ICU facilities, blood bank, and other essential resources. After the inspection, the committee submits its report.
Based on the technical committee’s report, the Advisory Committee decides whether the concerned hospital fulfills all prescribed standards and eligibility criteria. If all requirements are met, a final decision is taken under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department, and the license for kidney transplant services is issued.
The Health Department believes that the commencement of kidney transplant services at RIMS will provide significant relief to kidney patients of the state, who are currently
compelled to seek treatment in other states. It will also strengthen advanced medicalservices in Jharkhand and give a new dimension to the state’s healthcare system.
